What is the Telangana Minorities Overseas Scholarship all about?

The Minority Welfare Department of Government of Telangana gives scholarship of INR 20 lakhs plus air tickets to the students of Telangana who get Study Visa to the selected countries to pursue higher education that includes Post Graduation and Doctorate courses in foreign universities. As such, the Telangana government gives similar scholarships to SC, ST, OBC and EBC students too under various programs. However, in this blog we will explain in detail about Minorities Scholarship. The listed minorities eligible to apply are Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Jains, and Parsis.

The eligible countries are USA, UK, Australia, Canada, Singapore, Germany, New Zealand, Japan, France and South Korea.

The total scholarship grant is up to INR 20 lakhs or as per the admission letter, whichever is lesser. The charges of one-way economic tickets and visas will also be granted to selected students. The scholarship is offered two times in a year based on the intakes as per foreign universities. It is offered once for Spring intake, in which students who got admission for courses commencing from 01/January to 31/July of the year can apply. And another for Fall intake in which Students who got admission for courses commencing from 01/August to 31/December of the year can apply.

It is important to note that the interested students must apply and register themselves within the given date. The deadlines once passed cannot be extended and student who missed to apply within the deadline for announced intake cannot leverage the announcement of next intake. Once this opportunity is gone, it’s gone forever. Hence, you must watch out for the registration notifications and submit your document within the deadline.

Eligibility criteria for Telangana Chief Ministers Overseas Scholarship

• Student must belong to minority community and must be a native of Telangana State.
• The aspiring candidates must not exceed 35 years of age at the time of application.
• The family income of the parents should not be more than INR 5 lakhs per year as per income certificate.
• Only one student from each family can apply for this scholarship.
• The aspiring candidate must have secured a minimum of 60% in the previous course (Degree (Engineering) and post graduation).
• The applying students should score at least 6.0 bands in IELTS or TOEFL score of at least 60 and have a GRE score of at least 260+ and/or GMAT scores of at least 500 (in case of MBA).
• Merely meeting the eligibility criteria and making application for this scholarship doesn’t guarantee the sanction of scholarship. The selection is based on merit list and the best profiles among the applicants will be shortlisted. Hence, as an applicant, one must try to provide the best IELTS and GRE scores along with other documents like income certificate and residence certificate from MRO office.
• The generated merit list will be calculated with the weightage of: Degree marks – 60%, GRE/GMAT – 20%, and IELTS/TOEFL – 20%.
• The applicants cannot change their courses midway after applying for the scholarship.
• 33% of the scholarship will be reserved for female students.

Documents Required

The student must submit the following documents when applying for the Telangana Minorities Overseas Study Scholarship. When they announce the registration dates, you will get only about a month to arrange these documents. Hence, it is advisable for students to start gathering these documents before the hour without waiting for the announcement date:

1. Passport size photograph of the student.
2. GRE/GMAT or equivalent qualifying exam/test scorecard.
3. TOEFL/IELTS scorecard.
4. Date of Birth Certificate.
5. Caste Certificate from Mee Seva.
6. Aadhaar Card.
7. Income Certificate from Mee Seva.
8. Residence/Nativity Certificate from Mee Seva.
9. Passport copy.
10. Mark sheets from SSC/Inter/Graduate/PG Level.
11. Bonafide and Transfer Certificates from the last college where the candidate has studied.
12. Ration card or Food security card.
13. Admission offer letter from Foreign University (I-20, letter of Admission or equivalent).
14. Visa copy.
15. Study permit copy or i94.
16. Flight tickets and boarding passes.
17. Tuition fee receipt of the foreign university.
18. University ID card.
19. Marks sheet of 1^st semester of course in foreign university.

Disbursement of scholarship amount

• Release of Air Fare – The first amount released will be the student’s air fare.
• Release of 1st Installment – The second amount released will be the first installment which is half the actual scholarship amount. i.e., INR 10 Lakhs.
• Release of 2nd Installment – The second amount released will be the second installment which is the remaining half the actual scholarship amount. i.e., INR 10 Lakhs. This is released upon submission of marks sheet of 1^st semester of foreign course.
